It's so hard to believe it's been a decade since I held your tiny body against my chest for the first time. You are growing into a wonderful young man. I appreciate that you still ask me to snuggle you at bed time or during movie night.
You've had a big 4th grade year so far! You won your school science fair and advanced to Regionals at Notre Dame. Your project was about pipeline coatings and preventing pollution leaks. In other academic news, you made the Spell Bowl team for the second year in a row and you won Horizon's first-ever school Geography Bee! You took a written test and placed in the top 100 of all students in grades 4-8 who won their school bees, so you advanced to the State Bee in Indianapolis. We are going down there in April to watch you compete.
You continue to work hard and excel in school. You also enjoy playing soccer and are a great older brother to baby Finley. In your free time you like to read nonfiction, code different games using Scratch, watch videos on YouTube about Europe, play Wii Fit Plus, build forts, play "school," play board games, play outside, camp, and wrestle your brothers and Dad. You've also become interested in making videos on a laptop and recently discovered the Sim City app.
You've been interested in European geography and history, especially World War II. In fact, that is your birthday party theme this year. I made notecards with information about different people who participated in some way in World War II. We posted them around the house. Each guest drew a piece of paper out of a hat with the name of someone who participated in WWII. They read about their person and then competed in a Rock/Paper/Scissors tournament for candy prizes.
We also celebrated your birthday at Pokagon with just our family. We swam, played in the game room, did puzzles in the library, and explored the hotel.
